Why Invest in Yourself?

There are very few things in life that we have control over.  The one thing that we can control or should be in control of is ourselves.  We can’t control if our employer is laying people off but we can control if we are valuable to the job market.  You should want to be the most valuable version of yourself as possible.  The way we become valuable is by investing in ourselves.  When we make investments we expect to receive a return on our investment.  The best thing about investing in yourself is that you receive the dividends for life.  The more valuable you become, the more earning potential, skills, and influence you have.  No one can take these things away from you; because you yourself are valuable.  This is why investing in yourself is the best investment you can make.

How to Invest?

You become more valuable based on your education, skills, experience and several personal traits that you can develop.  Start investing right now in any of these areas.  Find a Youtube guru on the subject matter of choice, or you can get a book on the topic that you wish to explore.  Be a good student, learn to absorb information and apply it to your regimen.  You should be growing in an area that in return makes you more valuable.  This is the key to reaping the returns of investing in yourself.  The best investment you can make will give you the tools and insight that you need to position yourself to be successful.

What are SMART Goals anyway?

SMART is an acronym for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. In this episode we review what each of those mean, and give a couple examples of how to apply them.  Smart goals are designed to help you achieve your goals quickly and to make sure that they are attainable.  If your goals are SMART it is more likely that you will actually accomplish the goal.  When you set goals just do a quick check to make sure they are SMART.

How many lbs?

Imagine someone telling you that they want to lose weight.  You ask how much, and they reply: “I don’t know”.  The response says that they aren’t really serious about the goal.  If you don’t know how much weight you want to lose then you can’t measure your progress towards the goal.  In the reverse, if they were to answer by saying “I want to lose 10 lbs in 3 months”, it is more believable.  The more information you have about the goal the better you can plan and set milestones on achieving it.  Setting SMART goals is more about setting yourself up for success.  Let’s make sure you are successful.

What is your intention?

Step one is to identify what you want.  What are you going after?  This can be fun, but it may require some self examination and honesty as well.  Whatever you decide make sure it is something that you want bad enough to jump through hoops for.  Your intention should serve as a magnet.  The thought of it should be enough to pull you.  Let your intention serve you.  Use it as a driving force.  Use your intention to help you stay focused and motivated.

Milestones in a marathon

Once you have committed to your intention; you must begin the marathon.  The marathon consists of the many tasks and actions that you must take consistently.  Set milestones for yourself as you race towards your intention.  Break down the accomplishment of the larger goal into several small goals.  For example, if your intention is to graduate college, then perhaps a smaller goal would be to ace an upcoming exam.  Set these mini goals and milestones and know that as your accomplish these tasks you are getting closer to your set intention  If you stay focused and motivated long enough you will definitely meet your goal.

Do what is required, or stop

The journey can be long and gruesome.  It may seem like more like an obstacle course than a marathon at times.  When the obstacles arise you must face them.  Be prepared for the challenges.  If things become difficult revisit your intention.  This will help you stay focused and motivated through those uncomfortable moments.  Stay the course and do what ever is required to accomplish any task set before you.  You must reach the milestones if you are going to win the race.

Where do I Begin?

Starting new things can be intimidating or even seem impossible at first.  You know you want to earn the extra cash, but do you really have what it takes?  The answer is yes!  You have probably had great side business ideas for yourself, but never  acted on them.   It’s time to take the plunge.  The key is to start where you are.  Get a clear mental picture of the goal that you wish to achieve, and decide which vehicle you will take to get you to your destination.  It’s that simple.  It may not be easy, but it is simple.  Take the first step, and just get started.

The beauty of our era is that we can access the world without leaving our home.  Unlimited products, services, and customers are literally at our fingertips.  All we have to do is apply ourselves properly.  And because we have access to amazing social platforms, and technology that helps to keep us connected, it is more simple than ever to plug in to the economy.  We review a very brief but lucrative list of startups that you can launch right now for hardly any investment other than your time.  With a little bit of effort you can turn your side business ideas into new streams of income.  Some examples of the easy, but lucrative startups are youtube channels, blogs, tutoring, and offering online services.  Don’t shy away from the obvious; you can turn any of these common entities into a profitable business.

Time to Scale

Once your side business ideas turn into  profitable startups, it will be time to scale.  You can carefully expand your operation to reach a larger audience and potentially serve more clients.  If you make it this far then you are well on your way to success, but make sure you keep quality in mind.  Don’t prioritize growth over quality service.

Clear Vision

We ask Dr. Joe the question everyone wants to know the answer to.  We have searched over and over the different avenues regarding how to get rich.  But what we really want to know is how we get there from where we are currently.  One simple word…… “clarity”.  Dr. Joe suggests beginning with clarity.  Get a clear vision about what it is that you actually want.  What lifestyle do you want to live.  Decide where you want to be in life; it will make it that much easier to reach the destination.

Carry the Load

After you have a clear view of what you want out of life you must begin your journey.  At times it may seem like you have to many tasks, obstacles, and hurdles in your way preventing you from reaching your goal.  One way to help carry the load is to focus on one specific task at a time.  Don’t allow yourself to be overwhelmed by the work that must be done.  Set a schedule and execute tasks one at a time.  We can talk about how to get rich all we want, but we must have the discipline to execute the necessary tasks.  

Coaches/Mentors

Another major reveal in this episode is the difference between coaches and mentors.  Coaches are people who are directly invested in your process.  These are people who can provide an outside perspective on what you are doing and make suggestions for improvement.  A mentor is somewhat of a role model; a person who may be in a similar position for which you are aspiring, but you may have very little contact with this person. Both of these people play large roles in our “how to get rich” journey.  Find a coach that you can trust, and a mentor that you can reverse engineer.

Multiple Streams of Income

One of the topics discussed in this episode is multiple streams of income.  Have you ever heard the phrase “don’t put all of your eggs in one basket”?  Having multiple streams of income helps in several ways.  When all streams are working, it helps to produce income faster.  If for some reason a single stream stop producing, then we still have revenue from the other streams.  In order to be your own boss you must master creating streams of income.  A job can be one of these streams, but we must continue to pursue and maintain new streams.  One way that you can discover new streams is by developing your skills, and identifying ways that you can use them to help others.
